Robbert is the founder of and lawyer at MARELEX.
After obtaining his master’s degrees in criminal law and business law at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2012, he first started as a claims handler marine for an international insurance broker. Afterwards, he focused for a number of years on maritime and transport recourse at an international survey company. He also has several years of experience as a claims handler at a large container terminal in the port of Rotterdam. In 2021 Robbert successfully completed the postgraduate training ‘transport law’ at the Erasmus School of Law.
Thanks to his many years of experience in logistics, port, trade and insurance, Robbert has developed a keen (analytical) eye for legal nuances and commercial interests in transport-related matters. Robbert is no-nonsense, pragmatic and straightforward, but with in-depth knowledge of international treaties, national legislation and case law regarding transport law. His special interest lies in (recourse for) damage to cargo under bills of lading, damage under charter parties and (vessel)hull claims; especially in inland shipping.
Robbert is a member of the Dutch Transport Law Association (‘Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vervoerrecht’; NVV).
